Dear Harvest Home Supporters,
As we approach the holidays and our farmer’s market season winds down, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your continued support, acknowledge our recent accomplishments, and highlight our 2018 activities.
While many of you have visited our farmer’s markets, we encourage you to learn more about our programs, accomplishments, and participant impact by visiting our website. You will have access to our 2017 annual report, 2018 qualitative program evaluation findings, and find out how we engage diverse community members through our Eating for Good Health and Healthy Seniors Healthy Shoppers programs.
Some quick highlights are:
o Increased offering of incentives that combine with local government regulated, social welfare benefits (SNAP/EBT, WIC) by 20% to further extend food purchasing power. These transactions make up 70% of market sales.
o Expansion of nutrition education sessions with cooking demonstrations at all 16 markets by 12 community chefs, trained by Cornell Cooperative Extension.
o Along with cooking demonstrations, an average daily distribution of 50 bags of produce at each market (in total, we distributed almost 14,000 bags of produce weighing over 41,000 pounds to eligible individuals and families).
As a reminder, our farmer’s market season ends Thanksgiving week. We are also excited to announce that we are realigning our annual gala, Savor the Season, to celebrate the kick off of our seasonal farmer’s markets on May 22, 2019. Keep an eye out for the Save the Date!
In closing, this update would be incomplete without recognizing the people and organizations that makes all HHFM does possible – YOU. Harvest Home would not exist without the generosity of our individual, corporate and government sponsors. To complement your support our small team has been working on Fund Development and Revenue Diversification to further HHFM’s work, ensure the implementation of programs, and increase our impact for the communities that need us most.
We greatly appreciate and welcome your continued support of Harvest Home Farmer’s Market, Inc.
Warmest regards,
Maritza Owens
